Fish Oil & Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Fish Oil & Omega-3 Fatty Acids

History has shown and scientists have found that the Eskimos of Greenland suffered very little from coronary heart disease despite a diet very high in fat. The primary source of fat in their diet came from sea mammals, which contain high amounts of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids.

The American Heart Association recommends healthy people eat omega-3 fatty acids from fish and plant sources to protect their hearts .

The role of essential fatty acids in the body and mind has been widely studied. The body of knowledge consists of thousands of scientific studies, including hundreds of clinical studies on Omega-3 fatty acids.

Dr. Barry Sears is a research scientist and creator of the world famous Zone Diet. His most recent book, The OmegaRx Zone - The Miracle of the New High-Dose Fish Oil, is the culmination of 20 years of research on the benefits of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids contained in fish oil. In fact, Dr. Sears pioneered the development of pharmaceutical-grade fish oil, a highly refined nutritional supplement rich in DHA and EPA. This work continues his life long dedication to using diet to help people maintain their state of wellness.

Fighting “Bad” Cholesterol otherwise known as LDL or low density lipoproteins.

Make Olive Oil the main source of fat in your diet. Use olive oil in cooking and baking rather than butter, shortening,  margarine or other vegetable oils. Use Olive Oil and vinegar on salads rather than other types of dressings.

Eat oily fish at least 3 x per week, or supplement with fish oil tablets to make sure you are getting enough Omega 3 fatty acids.

Eat oatmeal and other whole grains, avoid white anything and everything .

Avoid trans fatty acids, and hydrogenated oil always – READ LABLES !

Drink one or two glasses of red wine per week.

Exercise for an hour at least 5 x per week. This doesn`t have to be mean running a marathon! Just get out and move. Walk the dog, do some gardening, go for a swim, go for a hike, ride a bike with your kids or friends, walk around the mall. Do something to enhance your life.

These are great natural ways to work on lowering “Bad” Cholesterol and raising “Good” Cholesterol. The best part is that these easy life style changes don’t have potentially lethal side effects, and they actually make you feel better in mind and body!

Scientific research and the Bible prove that you and your children should live to 80-120 years in good health

If you and your children are suffering with allergies, headaches, ear infections, colds, sinus problems, hormonal problems, asthma, or any other symptom, that is not 80-120 years of good health!

You and your children were not created to be sick and take dangerous medications!

Only 1 person out of 1000 lives to 60 years old in good health!

Only 1 in 10,000 people live to 80 years old in good health!

Do you truly understand what that means? That means you and your children’s chance of living a long, healthy, quality of life is almost impossible!

Every year we spend more and more money & donate millions of dollars on medical research and every year heart disease and cancer are getting worse
More diseases are developing, the old diseases are getting worse, and people are in more pain, sicker, and more depressed than every before!

Every year there are more medical doctors, more drugs, and more medical technology and every year we are getting sicker and sicker.

Living in the Medical Model doesn’t work and takes years off your life!

There’s a better answer to ensure your family’s health!

Chiropractic research on HIV positive patients revealed that those who received Chiropractic care showed a 48% increase in CD4 immune system blood cells compared to those that did not receive Chiropractic care!      THAT’S AMAZING!

That proves that a Chiropractic adjustment raises the immune system allowing you and your children to kill cancer, bacteria and viruses, and live a healthier life

Chiropractic, deafness, healing and the AMA

Chiropractic, deafness, healing and the AMA by Dr. Troy M. Dreiling

In 1895, Dr. D.D. Palmer, a very inquisitive type of man, stumbled upon chiropractic. When he was working in a building in downtown Davenport, Iowa, a deaf janitor named Harvey Lillard with whom he had become well acquainted came and spoke to Dr. Palmer. Harvey did this just about every evening because he was there late working on different projects. One day, Dr. Palmer questioned Harvey concern-ing his hearing loss. Harvey described how 20 years prior, while working on his house, he fell off the roof, and ever since that day he had pain in his neck, shoulder and had lost his hearing. Harvey had compete hearing loss in one ear and about three-quarters hearing loss in the other ear, so he wasn’t able to communicate with people.

Dr. Palmer asked Harvey if he could take a look. He then started to feel around Harvey’s neck and shoulder, and he felt something very strange. As Dr. Palmer was palpating his neck and shoulder, he pushed on an area, and Harvey jumped. Dr. Palmer asked Harvey if that hurt, and he replied yes. At that moment, Dr. Palmer came to the conclusion that a vertebra possibly was out of position. He laid Harvey on a flat couch in his office and proceeded to thrust with his hand against the bone that was out of position. He heard a loud pop, and both Dr. Palmer and Harvey had no idea what had just occurred. Harvey sat up and felt something different in his neck. He said it felt good, and Dr. Palmer asked him to come back the next day. This proceeded for approximately 20 or so times. After one particular adjustment, Harvey stood up and said, “I can hear! I can hear the horses going over the cobblestone!” At that point, Dr. Palmer had assisted in the restoration of Harvey’s hearing.

As history shows, Dr. Palmer thought that he had found a cure for hearing loss. The word got out, and people came from hundreds of miles to have their hearing restored. Dr. Palmer continued to, what he described, “rack the spine into position” for literally hundreds of thousands of people. During this time, some very peculiar things occurred. Patients were describing to Dr. Palmer that their headaches, their high blood pressure, heart disease, sciatica and breathing problems were going away. At that point, Dr. Palmer decided to study a little to learn more about what he was doing. As Dr. Palmer studied this new health system he had found, he was put in jail.

The authorities in the American Medical Association (AMA) accused him of practicing medicine without a license. Dr. Palmer defended himself and stated that he was not practicing medicine without a license, he was simply “racking the spine in position” on all of the patients. The authorities in the AMA replied that many people were claiming that he had cured their health problems. “I don’t correct or cure health problems, the body does. All I do is remove the interference,” Dr. Palmer maintained. But he was in and out of jail for many years until the early 1900s, when he won his battles and started the first school in Davenport, Iowa.

Over the years, chiropractic has gone from a healing art that aids in restoring life and healing disease to what the public now believes are back pain doctors. This letter should inspire you to understand chiro-practic a little more and, at the same time, understand the very political and devastating power of the AMA to cover up a very pow-erful health care system. This situation is a crime, and after you have read this letter and understand it, please pass this story on to someone else.

And please remember that the politics in the world are not always in your best interest. They often are only in the best interest of pocketbooks. As always, please continue to help in the mission of teaching the world about chiropractic and saving lives.

America’s health care system suffers from an “Epidemic of Diagnoses,” say cancer docs

America’s health care system suffers from an “Epidemic of Diagnoses,” say cancer docs

by Ben Kage

(NewsTarget) The biggest threat to American’s health is the U.S. health care system, according to an editorial by three cancer experts and campaigners against medical excess.

Dr. H. Gilbert Welch, author of “Should I Be Tested for Cancer? Maybe Not and Here’s Why,” and Drs. Lisa Schwartz and Steven Woloshin are all members of the VA Outcomes Group, a group of doctors, fellows and researchers who do not necessarily think that more health care means more health for Americans.

In the article, while admitting health care professionals make mistakes, the doctors say that the major threat from health care is not mistakes but a diagnosis epidemic. The motivation for this epidemic, the authors say, is likely the fact that the income of drug manufacturers, hospitals, doctors and disease nonprofits is directly proportional to the number of diagnoses made. And there are legal ramifications for not diagnosing a disease, but no such kickback exists for overdiagnosis.

The authors consider the cause of this epidemic to be what they call “the medicalization of everyday life,” in which normal-yet-uncomfortable problems people experience every day are turned into diseases: Insomnia suddenly requires sleep medication, and restless legs, sadness and reduced libido are all diagnosed as real medical conditions.

The authors note that an even more disturbing trend is the overly reactive diagnosis of children, as children with chest problems are said to have asthma and unhappy children are labeled depressed, but the severity of the symptoms are rarely considered. This problem stems from good intentions, according to the authors, in which the desire for early detection in order to have the best chance of disease eradication has gotten out of control.

New technologies make the situation worse — as they allow doctors to find traces of diseases in almost every person examined — and the things that define a disease are also in flux. In the last few years, the “at-risk” levels for diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension, osteoporosis and obesity have all dropped, some more than once. As the authors point out, this means that more than 50 percent of the U.S. population is technically diseased.

“At the extreme, the logic of early detection is absurd,” they said. “If more than half of us are sick, what does it mean to be normal?”

The natural consequence of a diagnosis epidemic is a treatment epidemic, the authors warn: Not all treatments have positive effects, but almost all of them have negative side effects, some of which are not detected until years after treatment. Even when the treatments do provide some positive effects, the authors said, they are often outweighed by the side effects, and it’s even worse when a “pre-diseased” or mildly diseased person is subject to treatment side effects when he or she would have otherwise experienced few or no symptoms at all.

“People need to think hard about the benefits and risks of increased diagnosis: the fundamental question they face is whether or not to become a patient,” the authors said. “And doctors need to remember the value of reassuring people that they are not sick. Perhaps someone should start monitoring a new health metric: the proportion of the population not requiring medical care. And the National Institutes of Health could propose a new goal for medical researchers: reduce the need for medical services, not increase it.”

Fibromyalgia / Chronic Pain: a non-drug approach

Filed under: Uncategorized — drtroy @ 6:44 am

Fibromyalgia –chronic pain

A Non-drug approach

By Dr. Troy M. Dreiling

Absolute Life Chiropractic

With our society and lifestyles being busier than ever, we are seeing more and more disease and sickness. Current health care spending is at an all time high. Consumers have three times the out of pocket costs for doctor visits today than just 5 years ago. With the out of pocket costs increasing, more people want to get the best treatment and care possible for their hard earned dollars. The traditional approach to medical care was to only seek healthcare advice when we can’t stand the pain and suffering any longer, but what about those people who have been seeking care from the same provider for years, have seen multiple providers, are on more and more medications but are not better but much sicker?

What is fibromyalgia?

One of the commonly diagnosed conditions I see in our clinic is Fibromyalgia. This condition is described as, “widespread pain and tenderness, fatigue, morning stiffness and sleep disturbance.” It occurs in 3-6 million Americans and is the 3rd most commonly diagnosed rheumatologic disorder (after osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis). Most patients are women, with a median age of onset of 29-37 years; the average age of formal diagnosis is 34-54.

What is the cause?

The cause is unknown but some strong theories suggest a relationship with Fibromyalgia and:

  • Altered neurotransmitters
  • Hormonal control problems (especially in pituitary, hypothalamus and adrenal systems)
  • Immune system dysfunction
  • Altered sleep function
  • MSG (mono sodium Glutamate)
  • Previous injuries or traumatic stressors
  • Stress
  • Viral pathologies
  • Local hypoxia (decreased oxygen)
  • Aspartame (NutraSweet)
  • Vertebral motion segment disturbances

How does it occur?

Several schools of thinking are looking into the body being over stimulated. This is when the bodies’ nerve pathways for pain signals are always on. This creates continuous or chronic firing of pain signals.  This can occur due to pathways being injured by trauma or chemical stressors. Trauma research shows that one whiplash or spinal type of injury will cause spinal discs to degenerate up to10 years faster than normal. With today’s busy lifestyles we also see more and more people who do not take the time to eat, think and move properly. If this pattern continues the body begins to run on fumes or empty. We know that when the body produces pain signals this is a clue that something is wrong. Fibromyalgia is just one of the resulting medical conditions of stress and or trauma.

How do we treat it?

This is a very difficult question. Many people choose to follow a traditional western medicinal approach.  In the traditional system, we see many prescription pain killers being administered. Anti-depressants and sleeping drugs are also used to alleviate symptoms. Numerous studies show that there is very little long term benefit if any with a drug approach; with all the medications side-effects is it worth the risk?

In a wellness model of healing, we seek to find the cause of the pain rather than treating only the symptoms. We seek to perform procedures to eliminate toxins from the body and allowing it to return to a state of wholeness and balance. This is truly how our bodies were designed. Humans have the potential to live to over 100 years with very few if any health conditions. The question should be what is my body lacking, or toxic with, that is causing my body to be unwell?  Seeking doctors who look and your body in as a whole and marvelous is the first step to healing.

3 step to getting well:

I have seen many patients with fibromyalgia type symptoms improve using 3 essential steps. The first is to eliminate MSG (mono sodium Glutamate) and Aspartame (NutraSweet). MSG is found in and added to numerous foods. It is often hidden and labeled as something else. MSG is a by product of the food when it is processed, and is a toxic, addictive neurotoxin which will trigger the pain pathways. To help your body become less sensitive and decrease Fibromyalgia type symptom one needs to eliminate MSG from one’s diet. For a list of foods and more info go to www.truthinlabeling.com. Another neural toxin which must be eliminated from one’s life is NutraSweet. NutraSweet is a powerful toxin and has been shown to cause tumors in the pituitary and hypothalamus glands.

The second step to truly getting well and perhaps the most misunderstood and under used type of care is lifestyle oriented chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is one of the most powerful ways to release your body’s innate healing power. Many people with fibromyalgia are sensitive and nervous about being touched due to chronic pain and sensitivity. However, there are numerous methods and techniques available to a wellness oriented chiropractors to allow the patient to be treated comfortably. For example, one can start by warming up the tissues of the neck and lower back for 5-10 minutes with cervical traction and a Wobble Chair. These therapies not only warm up tissue but begin to help pain causing toxins in the soft tissue move away from affected areas, and allow gentle spinal adjusting procedures to be more effective and very comfortable. In this way we can help the tissues reestablish mobility, movement which allows our joints to last longer, and prevents further degeneration; in some cases even reverse the degenerative damage that has been done. This type of care is a must for anyone with chronic pain, not only those who suffer with fibromyalgia but anyone suffering from neck pain, carpal tunnel, headaches, low back pain, sciatic nerve pain and pain between shoulders. In a recent research study conducted at University of Lund in Sweden shows that regardless of age, nutrition or exercise those who were under regular chiropractic care for a minimum of 2 years showed better DNA repair than those who were not. Those people who had regular wellness oriented chiropractic adjustments were able to slow down the aging process by allowing the body to return to a normal state of physiology.

Third step in winning the battle against chronic pain is exercise. This is a must for anyone with chronic pain. One can literally melt joint pain away by getting moving. Many fibromyalgia suffers feel that exercise will be too painful. What is misunderstood is that if one exercise one will feel better. Exercise has been shown in many studies to be more effective then anti-depressant medication in fighting depression, with out the dangerous side effects. Various forms of body movement are appropriate for the chronic pain suffer. Some include walking, swimming, bike riding, trampoline, Pilates, and tube or resistance bands. You need to find what fits your body and what feels good. Just do it!

We have all heard the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Today is the day to start your journey to a healthier, new you. Eliminate those toxins, start getting regular adjustments (I recommend 2-4 visits per month) and get moving (exercise). These 3 simple low cost methods have proven to be clinically superior in the long haul without dangerous and deadly side effects. Clearly the human species was created to be healthy and live long and prosper. Go forth and maximize not super size!

Mental health awareness

New program focuses on fifth- and ninth-graders
Sunday, January 14, 2007
By Rebecca James
Staff writer
Every fifth-grader and ninth-grader in Cortland County if their parents give permission will be screened for mental health problems in a program that starts this month.
The screening, expected to be repeated annually, is part of an effort by local and state health officials to draw more attention to the importance of mental health treatment.
“We want to raise awareness that mental health issues are in essence no different than other physical issues, such as heart disease,” said Garra Lloyd-Lester, director of youth services development for Cortland County Mental Health. “It’s not a personality flaw. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
The screening will start in late January in the McGraw schools and will take place in other schools around the county during the rest of the year. All children in foster care, of any age, will also be screened.
Fifth-graders were targeted because that is the age when signs often develop of conduct disorders, emotional and behavioral problems that may be characterized by aggression toward people or animals, destruction of property or stealing.
“Ninth grade we chose because research has shown that around this time you can see the signs of emotional issues and suicidal” thoughts, Lloyd-Lester said. “Early intervention is important.”
The screening process takes about 15 minutes and can be done on a computer or paper. It involves answering a series of yes-and-no questions.
Mental illness and emotional problems among youth are a growing concern nationally. Here are findings from the National Institute of Mental Health:
Ö Half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14. But there are often long delays - sometimes decades - between the first onset of symptoms and when people seek treatment.
Ö One in 10 children suffers from a mental disorder severe enough to cause impairment. Those include autism, depression and bipolar disorder.
Ö One in 20 children, an estimated 2.7 million nationally, has emotional or behavioral difficulties that may interfere with learning, forming friendships and family life, according to a 2005 survey. Thirty-five percent of those parents had not sought help with the problem.
Meanwhile, the mental health clinic has struggled to keep up with an increasing caseload as it also has a staff shortage. Both adults and children sometimes have to wait more than 70 days to get treatment, said Michael Kilmer, director of administrative services for Cortland County Mental Health.
A new state initiative, Child and Family Clinic-Plus, aims to double the capacity of mental health clinics in the state and to screen 400,000 children annually.
Cortland County Mental Health will get about $8,300 toward its screening costs and a stipend of $50 for each new child who comes into the clinic. That money will help fund two new positions in the children’s clinic.
The estimate is that 10 percent of the 1,000 children screened will be referred to the county clinic or other providers for further evaluation, Kilmer said.
The clinic has one vacancy among its three full-time children’s clinicians, which has made the waiting list longer. The clinic also is recruiting for a psychiatrist who specializes in treating children, Kilmer said.
More expertise is critical because more children are being diagnosed with problems, he said.
“We’re seeing more and more of those children that the primary care physician doesn’t want to treat because they are not trained to meet those needs,” Kilmer said.

An ounce of Prevention vs. the $10,000 so called cancer cure!

Filed under: Uncategorized — drtroy @ 6:35 am

As I get ready for this week’s Cancer Workshop, I am amazed at America’s health/disease care management system. They would rather you be so freaked out by a diagnosis of cancer, that you would do anything and pay anything. I read this week about a cancer drug that costs $10,000 a month and another that costs $4300 per dose. No one in their right mind would pay that out of their pocket unless they were desperate.

The very evil and sad thing about these drugs is that they promise so much and in the end may at best give you a few more months. And it is reported that these drugs don’t work as well as some of the older and very, very less expensive drugs that are already out there. But people and insurance companies don’t pay for old stuff. They pay for the miracle wonders repackaged by pharmaceutical companies. Today old pills in new bottles are what they are calling new miracle drugs.

And again the very sad thing is that these so called miracle drugs don’t get to the cause of the problem. The tumor may shrink a little but the body will continue to make more cancer. Research shows that these drugs may extend our lives and the pain and suffering a few months longer but the sad thing is that in the process they empty your bank account as you pay for these miracle medications out of desperation.

THERE IS

A BETTER WAY

!

There is tons and tons of research out that one of the worse and deadly ways to fight cancer is with chemotherapy and radiation.

LIFE STYLE is the only way to defeat cancer for good. After all, Healthy people don’t die of cancer. Everyone had cancer cells in their body from time to time, but our immune systems destroy the cancer cells once they are detected. The problem in our society is that we think that we get cancer the day we are diagnosed. The TRUTH is that the cancer has been growing in your body the last 10 to 30 years. And today’s screening techniques don’t tell you the whole story. Even though your medical doctor cannot find any cancer on their testing, all that means is that you don’t have it bad enough to show up on their tests. I’ve been told that you have to have somewhere around 4.5 billion cancer cells in your body to show positive on a test. Then what if you have only 4 billion, your test comes back okay and yet you have cancer growing inside of you. You feel fine and relieved that the doctors report only to find out that in a year and your next exam that you are full of cancer and they have to operate immediately.

Cancer death rate is claiming 1 out of 3 people in America. THIS MUST STOP NOW. My wife and I have dealt with cancer. We know what it takes to win the battle. It’s the way we live day in and day out that defeats cancer.

PLEASE come to our workshop this Thursday night. I don’t care what you have going on. Cancel it and come hear how you can begin to fight back. And bring ONE friend with you. This is your chance to save their life. They are on a bus that is taking them into town called cancer and we have got to get them off that bus and on to a better way of living. Won’t you please help us stop CANCER from killing our children, spouses, and our community? See you there!
