I am Legend, which debuted with $76.5 million, the biggest December opening ever. I can only hope that the movie might have half the impact on the public as it did with me.

Without ruining it for you, Will Smith is the sole survivor in New York City following a medical nightmare.  Scientists create a cancer vaccine by mutating the measles virus, in attempts to make “nature” work in our favor.  One can speculate what happens next.  All those who are vaccinated are infected.  The newly created virus has a 90% kill rate and becomes airborne. Out of those remaining survivors, only 1% has natural immunity, the remaining 99% become infected zombies who can’t be in light and feed on anything living during the night. Okay, so the infected zombies might be a stretch, but when you break it down, it’s completely plausible on a lesser scale. Maybe we won’t end up with blood thirsty zombies, but if something isn’t done about Big Pharma, we will continue on the path of mass death and destruction.  Those who survive the devastation will be permanently impacted and devastated.

Through the movie Smith’s character is trapped.  He is alone in a deadly world.  He is desperately looking to undo what has been done.  At one point he comments that God didn’t do this, people did.  And how true that statement rings.  The disease and devastation that plagues our lives today isn’t from God.  It’s from man tampering with the life we’ve been entrusted with.  If we removed man from the world, nature would flourish.  In the movie, New York City is littered with empty cars and overgrown fields. Animals roam freely including deer and lions.  Imagine that.  In the three years since the virus wiped out mankind, nature was able to keep thriving.

While I believe that there is a time and place for emergency medicine, I truly believe that we have created a culture of zombies.  People who live in the darkness of the medical model of health.  People who believe that a miracle drug will save them.  People who desperately would line up for a vaccine with full faith regardless of the side effects.  It’s happening already. The American Medical Association’s published data citing that over 106,000 Americans die annually from “proper” drug use. Deaths due to mis-prescription or accidents are additional.

Mike Adams, a consumer health advocate hits it on the head, “The entire drug industry, including the monopolistic drug giants and their FDA co-conspirator, has clearly become the single greatest threat to the health and safety of the American people.  And yet the FDA continues to push more drugs onto more Americans than ever before, all while pretending these drugs are safe and effective when, in reality, they are neither. Today’s pharmaceutical industry is a massive fraud being perpetrated against the American people, propped up by illegal trade practices, monopolistic behavior and outright criminal behavior on the part of the FDA.”

As much as I would hope that the general public would see the parallels between the movie and our current medical state, I fear that the message will be lost.  It’s our job to speak the truth and break the medical model.  The Legend starts with us.

Prevention is the key.  It starts with maximized living.  Don’t wait. Schedule your loved ones for a consult today before they become a casualty on Big Pharma’s path of destruction.

Bringing Back Slow Food in Today’s Fast Food Society
Every day one in four Americans visits a fast food restaurant. French fries are the most consumed and popular vegetable in the United States. Forty percent of American meals are eaten out (Super Size). This is the first generation of children that are projected to die before their parents. How scary is that? In today’s fast paced world of overly processed nutrients and diet/health hazards, slow food has become a luxury not all Americans can afford, but given the consequences of the fast food culture, it is time to more closely examine Americans relationship to food or lack thereof.
When we trade low cost and convenience for nutritive value and culture, who really comes out losing? Pollan states in his 2007 essay “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants” (40). What does he mean by eat food? Don’t we all eat “food”? Are the processed, packaged, dyed, flavored, modified, and texturized substances that we ingest really considered food? Or have they been so altered by science and technology that we should not even consider them food? Experts tend to agree that we are much better off eating whole fresh foods than their processed counter-parts.
Americans today suffer from increasing rates of cancer, obesity, heart disease, and diabetes than other cultures that eat more traditional diets. Four out of the top ten leading killers in America are linked to diet (Pollan 46). According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention’s website, two NHANES studies showed that among adults of the ages 20–74 years old obesity rates increased from 15% (in 1976–1980) to 32.9% (in 2003–2004). These increasing rates are very worrisome because of the repercussions they can have on Americans’ health. Obesity increases the risk of numerous diseases and health conditions, including the following: hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and cancer just to name a few.
In Italy a man became enraged by the thought of losing his food culture to the newly inaugurated McDonald’s which opened by the famous Piazza Di Spagna in Rome during the year of 1986. This man’s name is Carlos Petrini and he is the founder of the Slow Food Movement, a now international organization. They protested against the opening of this fast food giant armed with bowls of penne pasta as weapons. A manifesto was issued shortly after in response to society’s erosion to fast food, fast life, non-sustainable farming and the degradation of local economies (Hesser 1).
The movement has expanded globally to over 83,000 members in over 122 countries. There are 800 convivia (chapters) in existence, of which only 360 reside in Italy. Offices have been opened all over the world in countries such as: Switzerland, Germany, USA, France, Japan and the United Kingdom (Slow Food official).
The mission of the movement is as follows. “Slow Food works to defend biodiversity in our food supply, spread taste education and connect producers of excellent foods with co-producers through events and initiatives” (Slow Food official). It incorporates a series of objectives with this mission. They include: forming and sustaining seed banks, developing an “ark of taste” for each ecoregion, preserving and promoting local and traditional food products, organizing celebrations of local cuisines, promoting “taste education”, consumer education, and lobbying on relevant agricultural issues (Slow Food USA).
As stated on the Slow Food USA website, “Slow Food USA envisions a future food system that is based on the principles of high quality and taste, environmental sustainability, and social justice – in essence, a food system that is good, clean and fair. We seek to catalyze a broad cultural shift away from the destructive effects of an industrial food system and fast life; toward the regenerative cultural, social and economic benefits of a sustainable food system, regional food traditions, the pleasures of the table, and a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life.” And by good they mean food created from healthy plants and animals, by clean they mean food grown and harvested utilizing methods that have a positive impact on the environment, and by fair they mean that the people growing it are treated with dignity and fairly compensated (Slow Food USA).
Our food supply is quickly diminishing and many types of fruits, vegetables and breeds of livestock have now become extinct. Ninty-three percent of American food product diversity has been lost since 1900. Thirty-three percent of livestock varieties are near disappearing. One variety of vegetable is lost every six hours and 30,000 have become extinct in this last century.
The Ark of Taste project was introduced into the Slow Food movement to identify and publicize endangered foods.  They encourage people to seek out these foods, and as market demands increase, they hope that the supply will also increase. Products featured by the Ark range from the Italian Valchiavenna goat to the American Navajo-Churro sheep, from the last indigenous Irish cattle breed, the Kerry, to a unique variety of Greek fava beans grown only on the island of Santorini. All of these products are endangered and have real economic viability and definite commercial potential (Slow Food Foundation). The Ark of Tastes attempts to preserve economic, social and cultural heritage. Their mission is to safeguard and celebrate endangered tastes by introducing them to members and eventually the world, through media, public relations, and Slow Food events (Slow Food USA).
A major pretext of the movement is to educate our children. Society as a whole is eating mindlessly and we are loosing our ability to truly taste food. When the alimentation process is rushed, as all else in our society seems to be, the food is not properly tasted and appreciated. Teaching the children how food is grown, how to cultivate it, and how properly taste it is one of the fundamental tasks of Slow Food. School gardens are established by every convivium to demonstrate the food production process, introduce them to different types of foods and to instruct them on the qualities of fresh versus processed foods (Koontz 1).
People tend to believe that this movement advocates only the use of organic food. This is not true. The movement does in fact favor the use of agricultural products that have minimal impact on the environment, ones that are not impregnated with pesticides and chemicals. Organic food is, on a larger scale, similar to conventional cropping and the organic certification is not a guarantee of sustainable growth. They are most definitely against the use of genetically engineered crops, especially because sufficient testing has not been performed with these crops so no one really knows what outcomes could come of long term usage Koontz 2).
Opponents of the movement state that it is unrealistic for the majority of the population. They argue that it is considered an “elite” movement, which is simply false (Koontz 2). Americans spend about 10% of their income on food. Compare that to the whopping 24% that was spent back in 1947. This is closer to the percentage that is spent on food by other countries. How did the food suddenly become so cheap? Or have we traded quality for quantity? We should be willing to spend a little more money on foods that are well grown, on rich soil without the use of chemicals. This will contribute to you health and well-being. It may be a little more inconvenient, but is the trade off not worth it in the end? When you think of the foods that you are giving your children, should we not be a little more vigilant? Some of the foods that are consumed regularly by Americans are considered unhealthy even for animals, yet we ingest them daily. The time has come to eat less quantity and more quality. The cost should come out about the same at the end of each much and may even start to trim our every expanding waistlines (Pollan 49).
Eating should be a social event. Too many Americans eat on the run and do not bother to sit down and have family dinners anymore. Carlos Petrini states “Convivality is one of the most fundamental aspects of eating together. Breaking bread is an enrichment, and it’s very important to keep alive the social aspects.” Many Americans eat in front of their TVs or computers. When this is done, mindless eating occurs. We do not pay attention to the food that is being ingested, we do not take care. Whatever is fastest and most convenient gets shoveled in. Dinner with the family used to be a time for a family to connect, to enjoy food together and go over the events of the day. How did we migrate away from such an important family ritual which also helps centers community spirit?
Hippocrates’s put it well saying, “let thy food be thy medicine.” When we keep ingesting “crap”, how can we not expect to get anything more than “crap” out of our bodies? People today seemed obsessed with energy. Everyone has low energy issues. Energy drinks are all the rage because of it. Has anyone stopped to think as to why we have no energy? Energy comes from food, our fuel. If we are not getting the proper nutrients and vitamins out of our food that are necessary for our bodies to be healthy, function properly and have adequate energy, is it really so mysterious the reasoning behind the lack of energy and health care crises that our country currently finds itself in? Just a little food for thought…

To Vaccinate or Not to Vaccinate

A new law in Maryland is forcing parents to vaccinate their children with mercury containing vaccines, at gunpoint! They will be faced with up to ten days in jail and fined $50 for each day the child is not vaccinated (Adams).  Is this really a country that forces us, with firearms no less, to inject toxic chemicals into our children, when the benefits are not clear or well-studied? Vaccines, when inspected closely, produce many side-effects along with the “benefits,” painting a different picture of less-safe outcomes than the image portrayed by doctors and the media. Although, throughout our history there have been many times where doctors have mislead the public in health fare issues. How about when they told us that smoking was not bad for your health, it was even safe to do while pregnant.

The vaccination is shown by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) as a vital instrument in preventing influenza and other disease break-outs. They allege that vaccinations prevent the spread of infectious diseases by injecting a weakened form of the disease germ, which prompts body to create antibodies. This enables the body to ward off the actual disease when it attacks. The CDC states on their webpage that if we were ever to stop vaccinating, diseases that are almost unknown would stage a comeback and children would die. Could this be considered a scare tactic? Is this a dramatization or is there truth and studies behind this statement?

Mediation of the subject is wide-spread and most Americans today think they are taking important steps towards the prevention by getting these vaccinations, even though most know little to nothing about the side-effects, content and actual efficacy rates. Scheibner states in her dissertation on the adverse effects of adjuvants in vaccines that “The conclusions which follow the study of relevant medical and immunological literature dealing with vaccines and the adjuvants used in vaccines is that the absolute safety of these substances can never be guaranteed” (2).

The influenza vaccine policy serves to reduce the mortality of this disease and targets people over the age of 65. Simonsen states in his 2007 study of the influenza vaccine and the elderly that, “Few trials have included elderly people, the age-group that accounts for three-quarters of all influenza-related deaths. Recent excess mortality studies were unable to confirm a decline in influenza-related mortality since 1980, even as vaccination coverage increased from 15% to 65%” (658). How strange that the vaccination rate has more than quadrupled, yet the mortality rate has not shown a significant decline with it.

Most Americans would think twice before getting this vaccine, or any for that matter, if they knew the truth. That they are dangerous and contain toxic chemical materials that can cause disastrous side-effects such as: ethylene glycol (antifreeze), phenol (disinfectant or dye), formaldehyde (a known cancer causing agent used for preservation), aluminum (thought to be a cause of Alzheimer’s, seizures and cancer), thimerosol (mercury disinfectant and/or preservative), neomycin and streptomycin (antibiotics that have been known to cause allergic reactions) (Alston 2). Epidemiologist Tom Jefferson states that a large gap exists between policies promoting annual influenza vaccinations for most children and adults and supporting scientific data (914).

The side-effects of these vaccines can many times be more hazardous than the infection of the actual disease that the vaccine was designed to prevent. Ironic, is it not? Some of the more serious side-effects of the flu vaccine include paralysis, infection of the nerve root and cramps (Hasselberger 1). An increased risk for Guillain-Barre syndrome (a disorder in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system) after the influenza vaccination in adults was reported by David N. Juurlink an MD and PhD along with colleagues, in a population based study in 2006 (2217). And the list goes on; other vaccines have been associated with multiple neurological disorders such as: encephalopathies, epilepsy, convulsions, hyperactivity (ADD, LD), autism, mental retardation, depression, anxiety, central nervous system disorders, nerve deafness, blindness and SIDS (Mercola 1).

In Andrew Weil’s book, Health and Healing, he describes how scientific medicine has taken credit for many advances in health through the utilization of vaccines. When, in fact, incidence of infectious diseases were already on the decline because of better sanitation methods, advances in sewage disposal systems, and effective measures in distribution of food and water. These facts have been kept from the American public and we should begin to question why. Who does it benefit to keep producing mass quantities of vaccines? Why is it marketed so heavily? Could money be a motivating factor? Or is the health and well-being of the larger population really in their hearts when they decide to mass market dangerous preventative methods.

Information on the negative aspects of vaccines is greatly obscured. Almost nothing of this sort is published openly in American medical journals. The long-term studies being done on vaccine efficiency, such as the one done by Tom Jefferson (which was done over a 30 year period), are done in European countries, not in the US. Our government has a policy that urges large segments of the population, including babies from 6-23 months, to be vaccinated yearly, even though its safety in young children has not been adequately studied in large populations (Hambidge, et al. 1).  By the time a child reaches 6 months of age, it will have been injected with 49 different vaccines; by 18 months the number increases to 69 and at the ripe old age of 6 the number has catapulted to at least 80 (Koren 4).

So why do people get vaccinated? The media and doctors surely play a huge role in this, selling the vaccination as health and prevention in a syringe. But we must take in account that people want guaranteed safety and are scared of the unknown. Especially when the unknown is an infectious disease that threatens their health and safety and the vaccine is sold as an easy, quick, “harm-less” preventative measure. Scare tactics are used against the public and they are now even threatening people with jail time when choosing not to vaccinate their children.

Vaccination is the easy way out; much easier than taking care of oneself, eating a healthy diet, drinking lots of water and getting adequate exercise. People are supposed to believe the doctors, they are our health guardians and the media conditions us to believe what they want us to. Add to that how it has become increasingly effortless to come upon vaccines and you get a hugely over vaccinated and increasingly sick population, such as the one we find ourselves here in the US. Stations are popping up everywhere to vaccinate, from Safeway to mobile homes that can park anywhere, all the way to the newest method, drive-thru vaccines. How much easier could it get?

Here are some easy, proven preventative measures that you can take to ensure that you do not get sick this flu season: wash your hands, drink lots of water, get adequate rest, eat a wholesome diet rich in nutrients, daily sun exposure, regular chiropractic adjustments, exercise and lower your stress level. If you know someone who has the flu avoid contact with them and if you do contract the disease, stay at home until you are well.

Now, some of you may be thinking, “Spinal adjustments? What does that have to do with preventing the flu?” Chiropractic adjustments definitely have a beneficial effect on the immune system. Since your nervous system controls all bodily functions, including the immune system, correcting interference on your nervous system which is caused by vertebral subluxations can positively affect immune function and response. A vertebral subluxation is a spinal misalignment which causes abnormalities in the central nervous system, which runs through your spine. Your spinal column was designed to protect your central nervous system, as your skull does your brain, but when you introduce trauma, toxins and stress of everyday life, the spine can shift out of alignment, causing subluxation.

What country are we living in? Home of the free, land of the brave; is this not going against our civil rights? People should have the right to get vaccinated, if they choose to do so, but they should also have the right not to. This choice should be made public and recognized. Both sides of the story should be told to parents before they vaccinate their children and adults who choose to vaccinate themselves. The pros and cons of these substances should be publicized in order for people to make educated decisions. They should not be scared or pressured into making rash decisions by the media, schools, doctors, or even judges and the police. This is an important decision and research should be done beforehand to really evaluate whether it is beneficial in the given circumstance.

The St. Louis Flu and Chiropractic History

In 1918 an illness plagued the U.S. that would have made Anthrax seem like the hiccups. That year over a million people died with what was called the St. Louis Flu. If you got the St. Louis Flu in 1918, It was certain that you were going to die.

Another occurrence in 1918 was that Chiropractic, the only American born health care profession, was close to extinction only 23 years after its discovery. It seems that at that time the laws against slander were extremely lenient and medical doctors were allowed to openly attack Chriopractic without any regard to the truth or the best interest of the patients.

Because the medical profession was making it so hard to have a practice, Chiropractors were making mostly house calls. In 1918, Chiropractors in Wisconsin began going door-to-door adjusting anyone who had St. Louis Flu. As a result, an amazing thing occurred. Not a single person with the St. Louis Flu who was adjusted died.

The news about Chiropractic swept across the state of Wisconsin and eventually the whole country. Within a short period of time it became so well known that Chiropractic was the best defense against the St. Louis Flu, it saved the profession of Chiropractic. After the St. Louis Flu had left and Chiropractic began to take off, the Medical Association realized it had now failed in its efforts to eliminate the Chiropractic profession. As a last ditch effort, the state medical boards began offering Chiropractors medical licenses. They figured, if you can’t beat them-control them. NOT A SINGLE CHIROPRACTOR TOOK THEIR OFFER!

Chiropractic is not now, and never was, a cure for St. Louis Flu, Anthrax, back pain, headaches, or cancer. Chiropractic simply removes pressure, pinching, tension, and interference from the brain stem, spinal cord, and nerves. This maximizes your body’s God-given strength and its ability to heal and protect itself without the use of dangerous drugs or surgery. Chiropractic allows your body to be as healthy as possible.

***Through the holidays, the most effective way to strengthen your immune system and prevent the flu is to increase (not decrease) your adjusting schedule. In addition, warn others about the dangers of the flu shot and tell them the Chiropractic Truth!***

RISK OF CANCER INCREASING

Researchers recently evaluated data on 114,000 women (ages 22-85) who participated in a California teachers study. The women were free from breast cancer when they enrolled in the study a decade ago. (At that time, the women informed researchers how often and how long they used aspirin and ibuprofen). During a follow up period, some 2400 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. The results of the research were as follows:

1.) Taking ibuprofen every day for at least five years increased a woman’s chance of developing breast cancer by 50 percent, compared to women who did not regularly take the drug.

2.) Daily use of aspirin for five years or more caused a woman’s risk of breast cancer to spike by 80 percent, compared to non-regular aspirin users.

                            -Journal of National Cancer Institute

If something as seemingly harmless as a little aspirin or ibuprofen can cause a 50-80 % increase in cancer in just 5 years, then what kind of effect do all the other OTC and prescription drugs have on our body? Guess what? It’s only a matter of time until research proves that ALL DRUGS (whether pushed or prescribed) CAN AND DO CAUSE CANCER when used to treat symptoms rather than correcting the cause of one’s problem. Is it any mystery why 1 out of 3 people die from cancer in the U.S.?    (3rd leading cause of death). We consume 80% of all the drugs in the world! Of course we have a drug problem. However, there’s one problem even greater- OUR THINKING! Truly, the “medical model”-that influences your health related decisions- is the #1 cause of death today. Add to that, SUBLUXATION (blocked nerves), the most devastating thing that will shut down anyone’s immune system- and you have 100% certainty for early death by cancer.

If we are ever to truly achieve 100% of our God given potential for health, healing, and longevity, then we must stop thinking in terms of pain relief and alternative “treatments.” The correct approach to healthcare is the Maximized Living Wellness model: to find and utilize methods that will remove interference to the body’s inborn, God-given healing potential; Aligning your Spine and Lifestyle with God’s ultimate intention. This is the exact purpose for your care here. Are your adjustments a drug substitute? No! It’s what happens between your adjustments that does the healing. Never forget that the Kingdom truly is within. And if this is the case, then YOU need to go within to get it. Each adjustment releases God’s healing power. *Be militant with your adjusting schedule and your home care. *and be sure to attend ALL workshops! The workshops are the fountainhead for Life- Changing Transformation. Keep learning and you will keep healing. In your discipline lies the key to your family’s future health and safety.

HOW “THE HOLIDAYS” CAN SHORTEN YOUR LIFE 25%

Most people call November and December “The Holidays.” Because it’s “The Holidays,” people tend to get irresponsible and careless. You eat mass quantities, put all sorts of horrible foods and drinks into your body, exercise less (if at all), miss adjustments, spend too much, and put self improvement issues off until after “The Holidays.”
If you add to these two months all of the other times you tend to completely neglect your health like: parties, anniversaries, other holidays, birthdays, weddings, weekends, etc. you are basically being irresponsible for your health (and many other areas of your life) approximately 3 months out of every year.

By the time you are 40 years old, you will have spent 10 years doing serious, possibly irreparable damage to your body. “The Holidays,” are a time designated to celebrate the many joys of life and appreciate God’s blessings. However, they have become a time dedicated to shortening life and destroying God’s amazing and awesome good work. It is time to look at “The Holidays” from a new perspective.

Have a blast and eat like it’s your last meal for 3-4 meals over the next 6 weeks. But remember it’s about God and others –both of whom want you to live a long and joyous life. Therefore, continue to exercise, manage your peace, and make the other meals Food by God and eat according to your Un-diet Guidelines.

Italian Saying:

“Sono divencete veccio,

Troppo presto, ma Furbo troppo tardi”

(I got old too soon and smart too late.)

Q1: Dr. Troy,

I am interested in having my children participate in the food choices listed in the Body By God book, but my son is severely allergic to eggs and all nuts/seeds. What can I give in replacement of those?

A1: Allergies to Food by God can be a frustrating thing. Common FBG allergies include eggs, nuts, citrus, strawberries, and milk.

Eggs and some nuts contain good proteins and fats. Therefore, you need to make sure to replace those with other good proteins and fats. Other than the inconvenience, finding protein from other good animal sources (quality red meats and chicken) and adding or cooking at each meal with extra virgin olive and coconut oil for good fats will get you where you need to be. I’d also definitely find a great chiropractor!

Kids should follow the 80/20 or at least 75/25 rule. 80/75% Food by God and 20 - 25% Food by man. That allows them blue, purple, and convenient stuff a couple of times a day, but make sure they get the nutrients they need and that they’re not being poisoned.

Q2: Our pediatrician swears that without the fat in whole milk, a child’s brain cannot grow properly. What do you do to substitute?

A2: Pasteurized milk lacks much of the benefits of milk whether organic or not. If doing milk, the best is raw, organic. However, at the least do organic and avoid the steroids and antibiotics.

Unfortunately, pediatricians don’t have nutritional training so they base dietary recommendations on limited understanding. Giving kids regular, commercial milk is not healthy and there’s a whole lot out there to back that up. Fat is very important for the brain, but can be acquired from many sources and not just whole milk. Omega fats are the most important. They’re found in extra- virgin olive oil, flax oil, fish oil, organic eggs, grass-fed meats, avocado, walnuts, and organic butter.

If you’re using almond milk or rice milk, get Vitamin A and D fortified and make sure to be getting these fats from other sources.
